Festivals with kit and kin is always an aspect to look forward to , for it brings back the reason for us to enjoy the vibrancy of life in itself. One of the major festivals to occur during the beginning of the year is Makar Sankranti, the harvest festival, in other words the Indian “Thanksgiving”. Celebrated in the mid of January the festival marks the occurrence of the Winter Solstice, when the sun starts moving towards the Tropic of Cancer.
A striking part of the festival is the kite flying event when people come together to fly kites of different shapes , colors and sizes .Its quite a site to see the a mass of colorful rhombus shaped kites across the winter sky
However in the current pace of times, not all of us can keep up with the celebrations. The hectic lifestyle rarely gives space to catchup with our folks. However I believe, we can live the spirit of the festival through the way we dress.
Below are some looks inspired by the kite flying (Uttarayan) event of the Makar Sankranti festival:
The on the go look:
To get this look go for a solid color poncho top with leather trousers and black pump with ethnic embroidery. Team this outfit with kite shaped danglers. Alternatively you can wears a houndstooth print jacket with a full sleeved red crop top along with some kite shaped color blocked earrings
The all day ever ready look
Another aspect of the kite festival are the the and dye drapes worn by the women folk in lovely bright hues. Chooses a skater or sheath cut dress with a tie and dye print. Team this with a contrasting bright color coat such as purple along with a scarf of a lighter hue. For accessories go for danglers with stone work arranged in the form of a rhombus/kite , along with bracelet with a rhombus/kite shaped onyx stone.
For shoes you can wear knee length boots or formal pumps, depending on whether you have to go for a casual hangout or work. This can be tried even for an after work dinner outing.
The hostess look:
During festivals we can have a few friends over at our home, to keep up the spirit and zest. You can go for anon shoulder colorful mid length asymmetrical tie and dye dress paired with contrasting kite shaped studs or danglers with turquoise and coral stones arrange in the form of a rhombus. You can team the attire with a gold or bronze colored brocade jacket along with brightly hued leather kohlapuri slippers.
Alternatively you can go for a mini blue the and dye wrap dress paired with a red and bronze terra-cotta colored set having a kite shaped pendant and earrings.
The yacht party look:
If by any chance you have a party on the day of this festival especially on yacht go fora pale yellow lace fabric mini dress, teamed with a turquoise shrug jacket. Accessorize this attire with kite shaped turquoise along with a silver and turquoise pendant chain.
For shoes go for fuchsia pink wedge heels or suede closed shoes.
Hopefully through this post you can realize that a festival can be relived through the way you dress. Its about the festive spirit and what better way can be , than bringing it out through your dressing style.
Happy Uttarayan, Makar Sankranti and Pongal to all
